Adding JOY To Your Life

Now that I know what I need to do (infuse my life with joy!), it’s time to figure out how. Isn’t that always the toughest part?

I’ve been eyeing the new book from Daphne Oz called Relish since it came up as a pre-order in my Amazon recommendations  (yes, that would be Dr. Oz’s daughter, known for her show The Chew). Something about the cover, the title, the book just drew me in. When it comes to books as beautiful as this, I skip the Kindle and buy the real deal. Somethings really are just better in print, like a book like this filled with beautiful photos.

The subtitle is one of the biggest things that made this book jump off the shelf and into my cart – “an adventure in food, style and everyday fun”. Doesn’t that sound just perfect for someone trying to infuse their life with joy, health, and a little spark? I can’t wait to spend a relaxing weekend curled up with this.

While my exposure to Cosmo is typically limited to Cocktails with Patrick, I love their summary of the book:

“Daphne’s young woman’s handbook is about living life to its fullest–not waiting for something to happen–at home, in love, or at work.” (Cosmopolitan)

And because I always love to share the synchronicity of the universe, I finally got a chance to watch Gabrielle Bernstein’s vlog for this week as I was cleaning out my inbox. What do you know, Daphne Oz was her special guest, and they were dishing on her new book. (Video is below for those who want to hear about Relish from the author directly). Clearly, I was meant to pick this up.

Have any of you picked up Relish yet? What did you think of it?
Are there any similar books that you’ve read and loved?

Lots of Sneak Peeks for You!

You may have noticed I haven’t had the chance to post as much as I normally do, and although I have much to share with you, it’s because much has been going on.

We’ve been traveling lately – some short trips during the week and last minute travel on the weekends…long stories, but but basically some family matters to attend to.

Sweetie enjoying the Marriott

I think that’s how we’ve all felt lately…but at least that’s all Sweetie does!

We’ve also been tackling not only decluttering but redecorating the house. I’m talking painting, rearranging, turning rooms into other rooms,  replacing old furniture, you name it. Not only has that meant a ton of physical labor, but budget savvy shopping, dropping off donations, selling some of the things that are still in good condition, and everything else that comes along with that.

I’ll share more about the hows and whys soon. Here’s a sneak peak of me in our half finished, two person office (another change coming up).

Sporting a new Gwynnie Bee blouse in my new office space

On a side note, how much do you love this sheer DKNY blouse that is one of my new arrivals from Gwynnie Bee? Thank goodness I signed up when I did, because my closet is 3/4 empty from my “decluttering” and mostly “I live in Alaska temperatures but look like I’m from the desert” pieces. Not quite so practical with the ups and downs in the weather recently.

We’ve also been helping my mom with this decluttering project, which actually means that she’s been bringing my piles of designer clothes and shoes she doesn’t wear anymore and I’ve been selling them on eBay and Poshmark for her. And it also means I’ve been organizing, storing, cleaning, packing and shipping them too, as well as communicating with the buyers. That could easily be a part time job!

Although Sweetie is feeling better, she’s still had a few doctor’s trips, and now that we take her to her previous vet in Leesburg that we just loved, it’s a little bit more…involved than just running down the street. She got the thumbs up that her pancreatitis is all gone (YAY!), but she’s continuing with the special diet (which is my home-cooked dog food). We barely go to the store or cook for ourselves, and this can be an all day project for me just to make sure she’s good for a few days – heaven forbid if I’m out of town! But for those of you who are interested and have pets, I’ll definitely share more on that with you soon too.

There’s been the special occasions, with Valentine’s Day just passed and our anniversary right around the corner. We’ve definitely skimped on these and made them last priority, which I know isn’t a good thing. It’s been very difficult for me to get my schedule together this year and to plan in general, and this has just been one prime example of that.

A lot of these things (and others) have made us more aware of our budget, and at the same time making me more aware of my attitude of towards money and the importance of an attitude of abundance and generosity.  I’ve started a post with some of my favorite ways to save money and make money (I’m not a sales stalker, bulk shopper, or extreme couponing kind of girl), and I hope to share it soon!

Of course, than there’s the normal everyday craziness and drama of a full-time job; keeping up with a house, a husband, a mother and a dog; running  a blog, managing PCOS and diabetes and stay sane. We all know how it feels to keep all the balls in the air, right? Hopefully, I’ll make it through this crazy time with some tips and tricks to share, and I hope you’ll share yours with me in the comments below, or on Twitter or Facebook!

My Current Obsessions!

At any given in point in time there are things I’m obsessing over…here’s what they are this week!

I saw this Rebecca Minkoff bag walking through Nordstrom the other day…SIGH…LOVE!

A way to consolidate gift cards. I have a ton of non-reloadable Visa gift cards with random amounts on them, and I’d love to be able to combine them somehow. Anyone know a way to do this?

Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map. Allright, this one has been an ongoing want, but it’s kind of a big investment right now.

A really fun new iPhone and iPad case…the Otterboxes are feeling kind of clunky. I love this mint green studded one from Nordstrom.

And this studded iPad mini case from STUDDEDCASESBAR on Etsy would be a perfect match!

I suddenly have an odd fascination with glass figures. I asked for a french bulldog bank from Zgallerie for Christmas, and he brightens up my office so much and makes me smile, so I’ve decided he must need friends.

I found a fabulous blue unicorn at Target…

And I couldn’t find a picture of it, so I’ll share when I buy it, but my frenchie bank has a little brother at Target…yay!

And so, those are my crazy obsessions for the week. And because it’s important to also be grateful for what you have, and even a little obsessed with it, I received the beautiful bouquet below from a co-worker as a thank you. It is by far the biggest, most beautiful arrangement I’ve ever received!

And on that note, happy late Friday, off to do some planning and redecorating. What are your fun weekend plans?

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

A very special wish from my family to yours…
